Over the next two weeks I’ll be commemorating the 50th anniversary of James Bond by posting some of the excellent spy themed pulp paperback covers I’ve collected over the years.
Intrigue and danger in exotic locations, sinister enemies, tough secret agents, beautiful women, the spy fiction of the fifties, sixties and early seventies had it all, as the following the collection of pulp paperback covers show.
You’ll find more spy fiction pulp covers over on my Pinterest site.
In the next week or so I’ll post part 2 of my spy pulp series, a selection of covers depicting spy fiction set in Asia.
Oh, man, do those Bond/Pan covers bring back memories. My dad had those editions and I can clearly remember reading Diamonds Are Forever at about the age of twelve…until my mum found me with it, looked at the page I was reading, which, as luck would have it, had a something sexy going on. All the Bonds were confiscated and hidden, at least until I found them again within 48 hours and read them in complete secrecy over the next few weeks. Literature is so much tastier when it’s forbidden. I just did a piece about Bond over on my blog.

Thanks for stopping by. I know EXACTLY what you mean. All the Bond books about are sourced from the pulp collection of my late father. I was fascinated by these covers as a child. I thought they were so lurid and dangerous looking. Luckily for me, my parents didn’t have any problem with me reading them when I was young. Indeed, I credit these books with kick starting my interest in pulp. I will definitely stop over and check out your post.
Cheers,
Andrew
